Why I’m not listening to a large ground squirrel this Groundhog Day

Every February 2, a furry bastard like this:

thinks he can hold us hostage.

If he sees his shadow, we have six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, we don’t.

Last year, Punxsutawney Phil prognosticated we would have six more weeks of winter. This year, I have no doubt he will say the same thing.

The question is why should we listen to him?

According to Wikipedia,

The groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as the woodchuck, land beaver or whistlepig, is a rodent of the family Sciuridae, belonging to the group of large ground squirrels known as marmots.

When’s the last time you listened to a squirrel, ground or otherwise?

And how did that work out for you?

I thought so.
